The PhoRC (Phone Remote Control) programme is designed for controlling a computer with the help of a mobile phone keypad. Connected by Bluetooth, a mobile phone can function as a remote control.
The most obvious possible ways of using this programme are :
The programme is fully customizable and is not confined to any application. It means that with its help it is possible to control any computer programme, which allows keyboard control as a matter of principle. You may adjust the programme for controlling your favourite video-player and then control the playback of a film, having settled yourself in a cozy armchair several meters from your PC. Or you can control WinAmp without approaching your PC, while doing your work about the house in any part of your apartment. Or else you can give a presentation and change the slides at the necessary moment without moving away from the pulpit or the screen and without approaching the computer or projector.
A PC and a mobile phone are necessary. A large scale investigation has not yet been conducted because of a scanty budget, but it will be performed as soon as an opportunity occurs. Because of this limitation the known conditions of efficiency are considerably narrower that the real ones are.
Thus, the requirements are:
- a PC with a Bluetooth adapter and Windows XP:
- a mobile phone, which supports data transmission by Bluetooth (the programme was tested and successfully works on Sony Ericsson T610 and Motorola L6).
If the model of your phone is not in the list, it doesn’t mean that the programme will not run on your phone. Try to choose a different model, and it might work.
First of all, connect the Bluetooth adapter to the PC. Then turn on Bluetooth on your mobile phone.

Adjust settings in “Properties”.
Choose the model of your mobile phone and the COM-port through which it is connected. In the main menu of the programme choose “Start”. In case your mobile phone doesn’t support the required functions, the programme will inform you about this; otherwise, it changes to operating mode.
After the phone is connected you may initialize the phone keypad – keep the MapKeys button pressed, then in turn press the keys which you intend to use for control, then release MapKey. Now you may set the actions which will be performed when each of the chosen keys is pressed and released. A pressed key may open a chosen file or generate the combination keystroke.

This is a shareware programme. For more information on registration visit the website.
